Dan Jarvis MP, Labour’s lead on the First World War centenary, responding to the announcement that wartime nurse Edith Cavell will be commemorated on a new £5 coin, said: 

“Edith Cavell was a great symbol of basic humanity and showed us how bravery can come in many forms. 

"It is great news that the Government has listened to the tens of thousands of campaigners across the country who have been calling for her service to be specially commemorated. 

"As we mark the centenary anniversary of her execution next year, Edith will be an excellent representative for all those who served our country beyond the battlefields 100 years ago.”
